At the Ranch – Whitetail: Map Scouting

Map scouting before you get boots on the ground & are on a piece of property is extremely important. Aerial scouting or scouting with your maps online will make your hunt more efficient – here’s why.

-Being able to see topography is important. This will help you to understand how the property is laid out before you get there.
-It will help you identify transition areas. Any place where two habitats come together attract deer, as they are creatures of edge.
-It will help you keep notice of water sources, food sources, ridges & valleys where deer tend to be.

Don’t underestimate the advantages of map scouting. Going into a property blind for the first time will be much less efficient than if you’ve consulted a topographical map beforehand.
