When it comes to map scouting, the off-season is arguably the best time of the year to be pouring over maps. I absolutely love to be marking a ton of areas in states that I hunt to check out later in the spring or summer. I’m always looking for new spots to hunt and doing it right now on maps is great. Often times, I’ll go out and ask permission or shed hunt areas in the spring for spots I’ve marked during the winter or early spring. If you’re trying to figure out new areas in the summer, and then going out to check them out right away, you may get behind. If you’re marking all of these spots right now, you can get ahead of the game, which will put you in a better position come later in the year.
