If you’ve determined you want to try hunting shed antlers, you need to know where to look. First of all, you want to pre-scout areas where deer are spending time in the winter. Because many times, deer are spending time in the winter in different places than where they live during the fall. Winter food sources are a big reason why deer will shift where they spend time. After understanding that, the next thing to figure out is winter bedding areas. Winter bedding areas are typically on southern facing slopes, in thick cover or where there is winter thermal areas such as pine trees or cedars. You’ll then want to work your way from winter food sources to bedding areas and back and forth. Where deer spend the majority of their time in the winter is where you’ll more than likely find shed antlers.
