Winter is an important time to scout for a couple different reasons. You can see deer sign in the woods great which can teach you quite a bit. Another reason I love winter scouting is because I’ll go into areas such as bedding areas that I might never step foot in during the season. But you can go into them during the winter, because it won’t affect deer come fall. It’s also important for shed hunting as winter scouting can clue you in on where to spend time to look for sheds. Lastly, when it comes to winter scouting, I like to utilize trail cameras which will help give me an idea of the deer numbers in my area. If you’re not winter scouting, I’d suggest you start.
