All you need for this survival trick is a box of plain stick matches and some tape or twine. In the video below it appears they are using electrical tape, but a paper based product like masking tape may be better. Five matches encircle a sixth match that is positioned about an inch below the rest. They are held together with tape and the bottom of the middle match protrudes outside the bottom. When it comes time to light a fire, simply slap the bundle against any hard surface. This drives the center match through the middle and strikes the other five matches. Store in a waterproof case and you’ll have some excellent fire starters without the need of a striker.
