Knowing the wind and how it changes during your hunt can make or break your day in the trees. Why buy powders or other weird wind-checking device when nature already provides everything you need?
Some people swear by pine needles, but they’re a bit too heavy. Fallen leaves are another favorite, but unless you’re breaking them up and camp, they can be a bit noisy. The lightest and quietest wind-checker you’ll find comes from the Milkweed. Collect the fluffy seeds from the plant and keep them in a plastic coin holder. You’ll be able to quietly and quickly check the wind without spending a dime.
