When a deer broke into the Smithsonian Park National Zoo and jumped into the lion’s den, it didn’t end well…

Of all the fearsome predators deer have to worry about all over North America, the last thing on their list to consider would be a pride of hungry lions. Well, for one young deer, they found out the hard way that lions aren’t to be messed with.

The whole incident began when a young deer jumped a few fences and manged to get into the Smithsonian Park National Zoo in DC. It was wandering around the park, begging to be caught and released, when he stumbled into the lion’s den. The habitat was full of lionesses who, while trained, still can’t fight parts of their instinct when some helpless prey comes their way. Eventually the zookeepers put the deer down before the lions could finish their hunt as there’s the fear that an outside animal might be carrying something that could harm the lions.
