The internet was recently overwhelmed with photos of a massive snake in a viral story that smells a little fishy. According to the original post this ’98 foot long 700 lb python’ was supposedly pulled out of a lake in North Carolina. According to the original story, the construction workers who allegedly found it contacted police fearing the snake was responsible for some recent missing persons.
It turns out that the story was completely fake, but the snake was real… sort of. The photograph is real, but the snake is much smaller than it appears due to the forced perspective of the camera angle. It was actually found by a construction crew in Belinyu City, Indonesia after they accidentally injured the large beast while removing some rotten logs. They allegedly put the injured animal out of its misery and buried it.
