Using the SIG M17 in my Alien Gear OWB Holster on a Blue Alpha Battle Belt, we start by running a few draws to give you an idea of how the system works. Once you start it up, the app will ask you a few simple setup questions. After those are answered to your specifications, the system then calibrates and is ready to start your training session. The Pro version provides 4-5 scenarios to choose from as well as different targets to shoot at so you can actually get a bit more involved in the decision process of your training as well.
Once the system is ready, I draw and get on target – getting a 10.0 average rating on my first shot. I cock and re-holster my firearm before taking my second shot and repeat to complete the training session.
Getting that instant feedback on your shot is really nice, thanks to Strikeman’s Laser Bullet. So the striker the hammer the firing pin basically hits the little tip on the back of the Laser Bullet which actuates it so the phone can pick up where the laser is hitting the target. Since it’s calibrated and perfectly centered, it can read how close to the 10-ring your shot went based on where the app records the laser impact.
In terms of setup, we played around with the target mount and it really didn’t take that long to figure it out and get it done. One thing to consider is your lighting, which is pretty important. If you use it outdoors, it will probably give you the best results but if you’re using it indoors, make sure you’re in a reasonably well-lit room. You also need to make sure that wherever you hang the target there is no separation of the background and that the phone is zoomed in all the way on the target. These things are easy to troubleshoot regardless of where you choose to train with the Strikeman Training System.
