Whether you’re skydiving, BASE jumping, or hang-gliding, seconds are the difference between life and death. Professional hang-glider Jon Gjerde had a brush with this very sort of near tragedy when his hang-glider caught a serious cross wind and collapsed, sending him plummeting to his doom. After almost 30 seconds of freefall, he was able to right himself and get his rescue parachute open just in the nick of time. The whole descent is both mesmerizing and terrifying.
