Very few hunters will spend their tags on spike buck, but this archer decided to let the arrow loose after he noticed something strange on a young buck’s face. At a distance of approximately 15 yards, he could easily tell something was wrong with this whitetail. A strange greenish shape seemed to envelop the buck’s head and short antlers. Knowing that he could not climb down and assist the animal, the hunter from Whitetail Obsession Outdoors decided to tag out in an act of mercy.
A broadside shot sends the deer on a run for a few yards before going down 60 yards away. After waiting in the stand, the hunter climbs down after nightfall to recover his buck. The mysterious shape turned out to be a tough tangle of netting and rope. The bucks vision was obscured and the netting was trapped over his snout and in his mouth. It’s doubtful the little spike would have ever been able to free himself from the tangled mass. Would you have taken that shot?
