Japanese Ice Skating Rink Made With 5,000 Dead Fish

Japanese amusement park Space World had a horrifying brainwave – freezing 5,000 dead fish for their ice skating rink. Fish, crabs and other shellfish were embedded in the ice as part of a special winter attraction, called “Freezing Port.”

The park advertised it as a “world first” and posted images of the fish on its official Facebook site with captions including “I am d… d… drowning, s … s… suffocating.”

“We were shocked to hear the reaction as the ice skate rink was very popular since it opened two weeks ago, we had an unprecedented number of visitors,” said Toshimi Takedasaid, Space World manager.

After some well-deserved criticism, the park is not only melting the rink but also planning a memorial service for the fish.

What do YOU think? Was this a really bad idea? Although the fish were dead, do you think they could have been used as food instead of decorative purposes? And why didn’t they just use plastic or rubber fish instead?
