Life on the savanna can be harsh and unforgiving for the animals who call it home. The fight for survival is a daily one, and only the strong live to fight through another day. The mother of this poor giraffe calf was forced to fight against two massive lions when they attacked her youngling, even though giraffes lack the biological weaponry to put up a formidable battle. The lions quickly attacked the young calf while the mother’s back was turned, as you’ll see in this video captured by Tarryn Rae while on a safari with Mankwe Game Trackers in the Pilanesberg Game Reserve in South Africa. Sometimes, even a good fight isn’t good enough, as the calf regrettably succumbed to its injuries.
