Eric Swalwell, D-California, suggested that all assault weapons be confiscated, either by government buy-back program or force, in an op-ed piece that ran in USA Today. This is an incredibly bold statement, considering the furthest gun control supporters have gone is to suggest universal background checks and banning of assault weapons.
Swalwell sites Australia’s gun buyback program as an example of a successful gun-confiscation measure.
Recently stated by NBC News‘ Benjy Sarlin, even gun-control advocates admit that a gun-confiscation program would be “difficult to enforce,” especially considering limited federal resources.
