Northern White Rhino On Verge of Extinction: Only 1 Male Left Worldwide

CNN reports on the fate of the Northern White Rhino Worldwide: on verge of extinction with only 1 male rhino left in the entire world. And if THAT isn’t the saddest news, then the fact that he has to be guarded 24/7 against poachers is depressing.

For an animal on the verge of extinction, the fate of the subspecies rests on his ability to conceive with the two female northern white rhinos at the Ol Pejeta Conservancy in central Kenya. The last male rhino in existence is called Sudan and his female companions are called Fatu and Najin. All 3 live at the conservancy, and experts are desperately trying to ensure the subspecies does not go extinct.

All the rhinos are under 24-hour protection by armed guards because they are targeted by poachers. Experts say the rhino horn is becoming more lucrative than drugs.

“In addition to round-the-clock security, the conservancy has put radio transmitters on the animals and dispatches incognito rangers into neighboring communities to gather intelligence on poaching,” reports CNN.

Media Lodge and Sig Sauer have teamed up in training mission to support the Rhino Conservation with the filming of the mini-series ‘ The Good Fight‘.

Instructor Zero accompanied by The Orion Poaching Prevention Academy travel to Pilanesberg National Park in South Africa to train their Rangers on field tactics and weapons manipulation. Operating under unforgiving terrain with predatory wildlife nearby, the team soon realize that they’ve got their work cut out for them. A militarized enemy threat would overwhelm the Rangers at their current capabilities. The clock starts ticking and training begins.

Since the filming of this series started one Ranger has been killed and 4 rhinos have been poached. The war is getting bigger and more dangerous.
