Ruger 10 22 Takedown Lite Rifle – Sootch00 Review

The Ruger 10 22 was introduced in 1964 and over the past sixty years over 7 million have been made. They have created a wide variety of models and have even created some commemorative models. The Ruger 10 22 is the most popular 22 rifle ever sold.

The 10 22 Takedown model was introduced in 2012, but today we are going to take a look at the 10 22 Takedown Lite model. The Takedown model has been popular due to the simplicity of taking the gun apart and separating it into two pieces allowing it to be stowed in a backpack or tight space. It is great for camping, boating, or hiking.

The Ruger 10 22 Takedown comes with a ten round box rotary magazine that is very reliable. However, there are a number of after market magazines that you can purchase including a Ruger extended magazine that can hold up to thirty rounds. The release lever on the Takedown model is extended making it easier to release the magazine.

The rifle has a nice synthetic stock with design features allowing for better grip of the gun. The 10 22 Lite has a cold hammer forged barrel with an aluminum sleeve that is ported. The barrel is threaded allowing for the addition of a suppressor or compensator.  The bull barrel design is 9.2 inches in width and looks great aesthetically.

The Takedown Lite has a small bolt and charging handle that can be left open with a small button behind the release lever. When the bolt is left open you can remove the magazine without it closing.  The rifle has a cross bolt safety in front of the trigger that can be pushed to one side for fire and the other for safety.

The top is drilled and tapped for a scope mount that is included.

Underneath the barrel is the lever that you push forward to release the barrel from the stock. On the bottom of the pistol grip is the Ruger symbol in red. On the charging handle the word “Ruger” is etched into the bolt.

The 10 22 Takedown Lite weighs 4lbs 6.8oz.

The rifle is very easy to load and you can buy a Maglula mag loader to make it even easier.

The Ruger 10 22 Takedown can be very reliable, where other 22 rifles can be very finicky.  The 22 is very inexpensive to shoot and is a great rifle to take out for your first time shooting. The recoil and muzzle blast when firing is almost unnoticeable.

The Ruger 10 22 Takedown Lite is great for small game, target practice, and even self-defense if necessary. The gun is light and very easy to maneuver with.

The 10 22 Lite comes in a very nice case with the Ruger logo on the front. The case has dual pull tabs and velcro to hold the rifle’s pieces in place. The gun comes with a number of different accessories and an owner’s manual to let you know how to use the firearm.

The rifle stock insert can be changed very easily by taking out the sling swivel at the bottom and then replacing it with a different one.

The price for the 10 22 can be from around $200 and up depending on the parts that you get. This specific firearm cost around $600 on the Ruger website, but of course you can find it cheaper at your retailer.
