These Indonesian fishermen have been hunting sperm whales for over 600 years. Before you get upset at the notion of whaling, please realize that this isn’t some large corporation hunting whales by the hundreds – these are rural fishermen who work with groups of up to 50 other fishermen to hunt no more than 6 whales a year. If they’re successful in just one hunt they’ll have the resources to feed their families for months. This is completely sustainable hunting that doesn’t have any negative impact on the whale population whatsoever. That said, you have to be amazed at how hard the fight for their kill all while dodging an animal capable of killing them in one blow!
