Traditionally, fathers have proudly introduced the next generation (or two) in their family to the outdoors. With Father’s Day coming up, Sootch00 has put together a gift guide to help you find the perfect Father’s Day present for the outdoorsman in your life, from holsters to air rifles, pistols to revolvers!
Craft Holsters’ Raptor
Sootch has been relying on Craft Holsters for his everyday concealed carry since he first discovered them. The new Raptor series of cross-draw leather holsters are ideal for hunting, use while driving, or if you have shoulder pain in your dominant arm. Rather than drawing the gun from your strong side, this holster facilitates drawing the gun from your weak side. The gun rides at an approximately 65-degree cant (preventing the grip from digging into your belly) and is designed to be worn at the 10 o’clock position.
The Raptor comes in two colors of Italian-grade leather — mahogany and black – and is double-stitched for durability. This series has both a 1.5” belt loop and belt tunnel. Sootch says these leather holsters with shirt guards are especially comfortable, particularly when compared to Kydex, but it does take a day or so to break the holster in. Craft Holsters offers break-in kits to assist with this. Scooch had no issues carrying his 1911 or SIG SAUER P365 in these holsters but advises users to wear a shirt or jacket over the holster. He’s observed a smooth, natural draw when working from Craft Holsters, but encourages shooters to practice cross-draw and the quick access to a concealed carry firearm it can provide.

The Umarex Emerge break barrel air rifle, available in .177 and .22 has a 12-round magazine capacity, adjustable two-stage trigger, and is ideal for plinking and pest control. This easy-to-load and easy-to-cock rifle sends 12-grain pellets at 800 fps, aided by the T.N.T. (Turbo Nitrogen Technology) gas system. The Emerge rifle comes with a 4×32 scope, rings, and installed fiber optic front and adjustable rear sight. The polymer stock makes it ideal for adverse weather conditions and the break barrel action frees the user from needing an air tank. Every time you break down the rifle to shoot it, the metal magazine rotates and feeds another round. Umarex’s SilencAir Technology, an integrated muzzle brake device, greatly reduces the sound.

SIG SAUER P365-XMACRO Comp
SIG SAUER’s release of the P365-XMACRO garnered significant interest for self-defense. This striker-fired member of the P365 family is optics-ready and includes two 17-round steel mags and night sights. While larger than the traditional P365, it is only 1.1 inches in width and is especially concealable. It has front and rear cocking serrations, grip texturing, a flat-faced trigger, and a Picatinny rail. Another interesting feature of this gun is the integrated compensator. It is only on the slide, not the barrel, and helps keep the muzzle flat. The barrel itself measures 3.1 inches even though the gun is almost full-size.

Ruger Super Wrangler
This affordable, single-action 6-shot revolver with a transfer bar is ideal for new shooters and general plinking. Ruger’s Super Wrangler comes with both a .22 LR and .22 WMR cylinder and is available in three colors – Black Cerakote, Silver Cerakote, and Bronze Cerakote. This gun is reminiscent of the Ruger Single Six but at half the price. This is partially due to the aluminum alloy grip and frame. The rear sights are adjustable, with a removable front sight — an upgrade from the Ruger Wrangler. The Super Wrangler is compatible with Ruger Single Six holsters and Ruger Single Six and Blackhawk grips. While slow to load, the WMR cylinder makes it a viable pest control and defense gun. It’s a natural addition to the Father’s Day Gift Guide!

This optics-ready gun has a 4.5” barrel and an impressive 16+1 capacity. The Springfield Armory XD-M Elite in 10mm is comfortable to shoot and ideal for hunting and self-defense. While this is the full-size version, Springfield also offers a compact model with greater recoil.
It features the comfortable and recognizable XD series grip with safety, front and rear slide serrations, and Match Enhanced Trigger Assembly (META). It is available with and without a HEX Dragonfly red dot optic installed, giving you several options. Pre-installed are a U-notch rear sight and fiber optic front – easy to pick up and use. The powerful 10mm has greater recoil than another 9mm but is an ideal cartridge for bear defense and a great hiking companion.
