Springfield XDM 4.5 OSP 10mm Review | HEX Dragonfly Optic

Springfield XDM 4.5 OSP 10MM | Optics Ready and with the Real-World Fight-Stopping Power of 10mm

Review by Fred Mastison: The general rule is that when discussing the term “stopping power,” we do not include handgun rounds. In most cases, they simply do not have the power to provide real-world fight-stopping power. That is until we include one of the best handgun rounds out there; the 10mm. This round takes a handgun and brings it into a high-power realm with real fight-stopping capacity. The challenge has always been tough to get a gun that can harness this powerful round without weighing as much as a bus. Enter Springfield and their new Springfield XDM 4.5 OSP 10MM.

Springfield hit a home run all those years ago with the release of the XD and the hits have just kept coming. The newest member of their lineup is in their Elite series and is a shooter. The gun comes with a 4.5” steel match grade barrel that gave me a group under an inch at 15 yards. It comes optics ready and can support a variety of optics. The model I received included the Hex Dragonfly optic. This optic has manual brightness adjustment of the 3.5 MOA dot offers maximum control and the 16-hour auto-off feature prevents your battery from draining if you accidentally leave it on. It is precision machined from 6061 T6 Hardcoat anodized aluminum and outfitted with a scratch-resistant, anti-glare glass lens, the HEX Dragonfly is a durable, standard-size reflex red dot that delivers lightning-fast target acquisition and faster follow-up shots.

This is a full-size gun coming in at 7.6 inches and weighing 31 ounces. This is a good fit for the 10mm round as it is beefy enough to help manage the recoil without being too heavy. The trigger broke at around five pounds and had the traditional XD feel. As I mentioned, the gun is very accurate and shot well. Ammo for the range was a mix of Hornady 155 gr XTP and their 175 gr FlexLock. The gun ran without any issues at all and did not mind a variety of ammo.
