Kimber K6s DASA 4” Target Model: Karen Hunter Review

k6s, kimber, revolverk6s, kimber, revolver

As Kimber states, the K6s DASA is the next evolution of the Kimber revolver product line that takes the K6s system and enhances it with a double and single action trigger mechanism. This new platform holds true to the benefits of the original K6s by maintaining the double action trigger pull, compact envelope and the six-shot capacity. The added advantage is the single action trigger.

The K6s DASA is not an entirely new gun. Kimber introduced this platform a little while back with the 3” K6s DASA. Now added to this platform is the K6s DASA Target and Combat models. The model I am going to focus on in this article is the Target model.

What stands out as “new” with the Target model is the 4” barrel. One inch may not seem like much, but it literally offers enhanced accuracy and effective range for the shooter. This model is chambered in .357 Magnum, so the longer barrel will literally give you more “bang for your buck”. It has a beautiful extended 3-finger wood grip with diamond checkering that is ergonomic and comfortable. The target adjustable rear sight offers each shooter the ability for unbelievable accuracy coupled with a trigger that lends a crisp, clean break. Aesthetically speaking, this revolver is absolutely sexy. Combining reliable functionality with eye-catching beauty is the magic of Kimber.

My time on the range with the Target model was just as fun as it was interesting. Although this model is chambered in .357 Magnum, you are also able to run .38 special. Normally I would run both in a T&E session but as most of you are aware, we are undergoing an ammunition shortage. Given the fact that I go through more rounds than most I decided to stick with the ammunition that I had the most of, .357 Magnum. At approximately 100 rounds into the T&E I stopped. The 3-finger grip on the Target model is very slender. I found that while shooting I was constantly having to readjust my grip and I was not able to shoot quite as fast and effortlessly as I would have liked to. I was still able to shoot accurately, just not comfortably. By no means was the gun jumping out of my hand, it just wasn’t conducive for the amount of shooting I was needing to do. Having another 400 rounds to shoot I decided to find some .38 special. Once I made the switch, shooting was almost effortless. Obviously .38 special has less recoil and makes shooting a bit more enjoyable. I want to notate that having to adjust my grip while shooting the .357 Magnum had nothing to do with the gun. The grip is slender, so for me to shoot ammunition with more recoil I prefer a wider grip to gain a little more purchase on the gun. Realizing I was going to need to go another 400 rounds, I knew the .38 special would serve me better for my T&E. With either ammunition the Target model shot well and was incredibly accurate.

One of my favorite things about this gun was the ability to go from double action to single action. Shooting is fun and enjoyable, having the option to switch things up at any given moment makes shooting even more exciting.

Although enjoyable, this gun is not just about fun and games. The K6s DASA is a serious shooting, powerful gun especially the way it handles the .357 Magnum ammunition. This gun shoots smooth and has unparalleled accuracy. If you are a fan of the revolver platform, then the K6s DASA is most certainly a platform you should try out.
