Grand Power Stribog SP9A1 Upgrades: Sootch00 Install

Sootch00 Install of the Stribog SP9A1 Upgrades – GetZone.com Exclusive

Grand Power, based out of Slovakia, has created a large number of great handguns that are very popular with European competitive shooters. Their rotating barrel design and the quality of their firearms has a lot to do with that.

When Grand Power came out with the Stribog SP9A1, it quickly rose to popularity because of the price and the quality of it.  Based on a submachine gun version of a gun they use in the Slovakian military, the gun has an all metal construction on the top receiver and is built very well.

For this Stribog SP9A1 upgrade showcase, we are going to use a Stribog SP9A1 Generation 1 which has a reciprocating bolt rather than the non-reciprocating bolt of the Generation 2. However, the upgrades will work on both generations of the SP9A1.

The original Grand Power adaptor has a standard spec buffer tube and castle nut with a SB Tactical Brace. However, because the package is so small, a folding brace may work better than the standard SB Tactical Brace. The A3 Tactical Modular side-folding brace or stock. It is a 9in singular curve which helps with aligning it to your sights. We are going to use the Gear Head Works Gen 1 Aluminum Tailhook for the end of the A3 Tactical Modular to use as an arm brace.

Other upgrades for the Stribog SP9A1 that are necessary is the replacement of the polymer sights, charging handles, and bolt release. First thing that needs to be done to begin replacing these parts is the removal of the pin near the stock. Then, open the gun up and remove the stock making sure that the rear sight is in the upwards position. Once the stock is removed, release the bolt carrier and remove both it and the charging handle.  Next, remove the pin that is holding the bolt release in place so that it can then be removed. Finally, remove your bolt release. When comparing the standard bolt releases to the bolt release upgrade, it is clear to see that the upgrade will allow for a much easier release of your bolt.

Now, place your upgraded bolt release into place and place both the spring and pin back in so that it is lined up. Then, place the upper receiver back on to the frame and make sure that the pin is firmly in place so that you can place your bolt into your receiver. Once it is back in, you want to make sure that the hole in the receiver is lined up with the hole on the frame so that you can add the ambidextrous charging handles. After inserting both of the charging handles into the holes on either side, you can add the adaptor plate, close the receiver, and put back in the first pin that you took out.

Now it’s time to add the A3 Tactical Modular side-folding brace. First, remove the screws that are in the adaptor plate and line up the brace with those holes. Then put your screws back in and tighten them so that the brace is solid with the frame. You can add the Gear Head Works Tailhook to the back of the brace to give you the best support when firing.

To change out the sight, first remove the roll pin that is holding the standard polymer sight into place. Next, remove the sight and place the metal sight into the spot where the polymer sight was before. Then, you can add the roll pin back in.  Repeat the process for the front to add the front metal sight.

After the upgrades, the Stribog SP9A1 became fully ambidextrous and is ready for use. The SP9A1 is a solid budget priced, very well made, 9mm pistol in the rifle configuration.  This is a great choice for someone looking for a PDW (personal-defense weapon).
