Sig Sauer P320 X5 Legion Review | Full Size 9mm | Karen Hunter

The Sig Sauer P320 X5 Legion is not “just another gun”. The X5 Legion is a full-size, SA only, 9mm handgun owning a well-deserved spot in the Legion family line. From design to function the X5 brings to the table everything we have come to expect from Sig Sauer and more. Here’s my review of the Sig Sauer P320 X5 Legion handgun.

To really appreciate what the X5 Legion has to offer, we need to first understand what the Legion line is. Sig takes feedback from their customers seriously and noted how often gun owners customize their guns. With this, they wanted to offer them the same experience except this time, out of the box and ready to go, thus Legion was born. These pistols are far from just semi-pro shop touch ups. Legion handguns are fully customized and designed incorporating high-end, precision parts with input from some of the most elite professionals world-wide. They meet and exceed the expectations of the elite, and as Sig Sauer states, “These are serious tools, for serious users”. – Sig Sauer

The P320 opened the door for Sig to bring change in the industry, now the X5 Legion is setting the pace. The new X5 Legion holds the same spirit of the P320 in that it has an almost “futuristic” feel. Both guns play an intricate part with SIG Sauer’s desire to re-define the world of modern firearms in the 21st century. That’s not just literary hype either, the X5 Legion is Tungsten infused! Whether you’re a fan of Sig or not, the sheer innovation of infusing tungsten into the frame of a firearm is fascinating.

The signature Legion gray color and clean lines of the X5 Legion are most certainly eye-catching but the lightning cuts along the top of the slide really caught my attention. The frame is a heavy X-Grip module that is TXG Tungsten infused giving it a different, beautifully smooth texture. Handling the gun, the very first thing I noticed was its weight. This X5 Legion has a little bit of heft to it. Not nearly enough to make it an uncomfortable shooting experience, but you immediately notice this is very different than the light polymer guns most of us are accustomed to. It had, for lack of better terms, a comfortable weight to it. The small amount of heft aids in managing recoil. With proper grip, recoil is very minimal with the X5 Legion.

The X5 Legion in the video is my personal gun so I’ve had ample time to run this gun. I can tell you that the X5 Legion lives up to the expectations that come with the Legion name. Minimal recoil paves the way for consistent groups, more control and repeated accuracy. Muzzle rise is easy to manage as a mix of weight, grip and general ergonomics help drive the gun. The lightened, skeletonized, flat trigger lends a smooth, crisp pull with a very short reset. One of my favorite features are the Dawson Precision fiber optic front and adjustable rear sights. The rear sight is easily adjustable while also being completely dark lending to better focus and quick sight acquisition. Unlike most polymer pistols, the P320 X5 Legion has a steel guide rod that takes interchangeable 1911 style springs. This adds a little weight to the front of the gun and allows shooters to change springs and in turn tune the gun to a particular load. This is almost unheard of in the striker-fired gun realm.

Regarding function, the X5 Legion was again above par. I’ve had my X5 since it was released and have never had feed issues or zero malfunctions. It truly is a powerhouse gun.

“The X5 Legion is extremely easy to shoot with soft felt recoil, unbelievable accuracy, and like the P320, there are several options for the end-user to make this pistol their own. The new TXG grip is like nothing else on the market. Sig continues to lead from the front and give the shooters exactly what they’re looking for. In fact, several changes I have made to my X5’s over the last year or two, you see in the Legion. I love helping make our products better and am proud to be a part of this amazing company.” – Max Michel, Team SIG Captain.

“The first P320 in the Legion lineup had to be something special. The real question was, how much better could we do than the current P320Xfive? The new Tungsten-infused material gave us that opportunity by putting something truly unique in a platform that has never been done before; a heavy-as-steal- pistol with the recoil absorption properties of a flexible frame. Along with the improved trigger and recoil assembly, our goal was to produce the best shooting P320 ever. We surpassed that with the best shooting 9mm pistol ever in the P320 X5 Legion.” – Phil Strader, Team SIG.

Sig innovation embodied in a tungsten-infused frame, bringing power and performance to the palm of your hand, this is the P320 X5 Legion. A gun that isn’t meant to simply shoot, but an experience.
